In short: NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme found in every living cell. It is the required fuel for the enzymes that produce your energy, repair your DNA and regulate how you age. Levels are thought to decline substantially with age, and 90 to 95 percent of it sits inside your cells, which is why a standard blood test does not capture it.
The short version
If you have ever wondered why your energy, recovery and focus feel different at 42 than they did at 25, part of the answer is a molecule most people have never heard of: NAD+.
NAD+ is a coenzyme, a helper molecule, present in every one of your cells. Think of it as the electrical current running through your cellular machinery. When the current is strong, everything runs smoothly. When it drops, several systems slow down at once.
What NAD+ actually does
NAD+ is required by four critical enzyme families, which is why it matters far more than its low profile suggests:
- It fuels the mitochondria that convert food into usable energy in every cell
- It is a required substrate for PARP-1, the enzyme that repairs everyday DNA damage
- It is consumed by CD38, an enzyme that rises with inflammation and age
- It activates the sirtuins, enzymes involved in how your genes respond to ageing and lifestyle
Because these pathways all draw on the same molecule, a shortage does not show up as one neat symptom. It shows up as a general sense that your body is not bouncing back the way it used to.
Why it declines
NAD+ naturally falls with age, but the pace is not fixed. Chronic stress, disrupted sleep, inflammation, illness and a heavy workload all draw it down faster. Two people the same age can have very different cellular NAD+ depending on how their bodies have been coping with time and demand.
Why measuring beats guessing
Here is the part that matters for anyone taking supplements. NAD+ precursors such as NMN and NR are sold specifically to raise a value you have almost certainly never measured. Without a baseline, you have no way of knowing whether you needed them, or whether they are doing anything for you.
This is exactly why a cellular measurement is useful. It turns a shelf of guesses into a starting point you can actually track.
The Pakistan context
Until recently, there was no way to measure intracellular NAD+ in Pakistan at all. Global Wellness is the first service to offer it here, from a simple finger-prick at home, analysed in a CLIA-certified laboratory. If you are going to invest in your health, it makes sense to measure before you spend.
